Alateen Chairperson's Message

Welcome to the 49th Annual San Fernando Valley A.A. Convention with Al-Anon and Alateen participation.

Whether you arrive at Alateen “sometimes quickly” or “sometimes slowly,” the only thing that really matters is that you get here.  And once you’re here, you’ll find that you will be surrounded by other kids who truly understand what you’re going through.

My experience in Alateen is that it brings people together to share their thoughts, which might help others.  And in helping others we learn to help ourselves.  That has definitely been true for me.  Alateen provides a safe space to talk – like another form of therapy – and there are things I feel I can say in a meeting that I don’t necessarily feel comfortable sharing other places.

If you’re new to Alateen, I invite you to just come and be a part of us and find out what we’re all about.  We have some great activities planned for the weekend, and I’m positive you’ll leave here with many new friends.

I’d like to thank our A.A. Chair, Lacy M., our Al-Anon Chair, Heather G., my Alateen Committee and all our AMIAS and Alateen sponsors for their help throughout this year.  You have all been great and I am grateful for your guidance.

My family has been in recovery for almost 30 years, starting with my grandma and my dad in AA, my mom in Al-Anon, and then me and my siblings in Alateen, and I can’t remember a time when we haven’t all participated in the SFVAA Convention.  I am super excited that it’s my year to step up and do my part, and I thank you for the privilege of serving as the 2025 Alateen Chair.
